Goal planning: Part 1 - Why is it a struggle?

I recently recorded an off-the-cuff video explaining how I struggle with goal planning. This post contains that video, and a brief summary. I plan to follow up with a part 2 that covers some of the responses I got, and maybe (if I'm feeling brave) a part 3 where I set up a type of goal planning for 2024.

The video outlines how I react to goal planning, and asks for ideas and suggestions.

I talk about how I:

  • Have tried different types of goal planning
  • Have no problem with work planning and productivity . . . but struggle with personal goals
  • Feel myself getting anxious even looking at goal planners and habit trackers
  • Am less likely to do something if it's part of a goal
  • Some ideas of where I may be going wrong (although not very sold on any of them)

This was a spontaneous video - for the following parts I'll write a proper blog post (and try to have slightly better production values in the video!)
