Fun and survival
Reddit gaming communities: imparting wisdom (and sarcasm) since 2005.

I play World of Warcraft Classic Hardcore. For those to whom those words are meaningless, don't worry: it's a computer game, you don't need to know what it is to get the point. I occasionally lurk on the WoW Classic subreddit (a subreddit is a type of forum).
Somewhere in between the endless complaints about hunters, complaints about trolling, actual trolling, and speculation about the future of the game, we find this gem. Someone made a heartfelt post about a life lesson they took from the game, and got the response:
Learned something about life, gonna keep dedicating it to WoW and work.
Very sad story.
Harsh, but not an uncommon opinion, right? Computer games tend to get extra focus, but the attitude applies to almost any hobby. How sad to spend your life focused on work and playing golf/knitting/gardening . . .
Shouldn't you be doing something big? Something meaningful with a capital M?
Which is why I love the reply so much:
Yeah OP how dare you dedicate your time to fun and survival! /s
I don't want this to read like an attack on people who seek meaning. It's great to put effort in to reflection, self-development, pursuing meaning and growth. But it's also ok to just get by, and have some fun along the way. You're holding down a job, you're keeping your household functioning, and you're having some fun in life. It's ok to let go of the pressure to do more.
